November is here and so is the cold! Are you one of the lucky ones that has a woodburning fireplace? If so, this one is for you! If not….well this one is for you too because you probably have the occasional bathroom odor and here is a pretty way to deal with it- etched glass match jars! If you don’t have a fireplace and you don’t EVER have a stinky bathroom, well then read on as well because you probably know someone who does and this is the perfect hostess gift!
Supplies:
- Small Jar with lid- anything with a smooth surface will work. The one I used is a spice jar from IKEA, I found it in the as-is section for 80 cents- yup!
- Stencil
- Glass Etching Cream
- Strike Anywhere Matches
This would be a great party favor or wedding favor, there are lots of ‘match’ sayings that could romanticize these. You are a smart cookie and I am sure and will come up with something fabulous. For some reason when I thought of this idea, that song ‘Come on Baby Light My Fire’ kept running through my head so I took it as a sign.
Ok….I’ll finally get to the deets here. 3 Steps….Easy!
First, you need to apply an adhesive stencil to your spice jar…er I mean match jar. The sillhouette Cameo is great for making them but you can also find pre-made ones, such as letters, at the craft store.
Second, Apply an even layer of etching cream to the stencil. Wait about 15 Minutes and rinse it off. (this is obviously a different stencil but it’s the same concept).
Third, apply another layer of etching cream on the bottom and let it sit. I let it go for 30 minutes just to make sure it was really scratchy. This will be the area where you can strike away with the strike anywhere match.
Fill with strike anywhere matches (have I reminded you enough that you need strike anywhere not strike on box matches?) and you have your match jar!
Warmly!
Heidi
P.S. Please Please Please keep these away from the kids. Strike anywhere matches are not as safe as strike on the box matches so make sure they are up high!
